After ‘winning’ a brand-new iPhone 17 Pro Max at his company party, this man had to rethink the meaning of business benefits after the box-opening gave him the shock of his life.
Imagine the adrenaline of winning a $1,500 phone in front of your entire company. The buzz would be electric. You’ve beaten the rest and been handed a fantastic prize.
That energy was flowing through Weibo user ‘Jiang Jiang’, who documented his feelings as he stepped up in front of his employer to collect his prize.
But what was actually inside the iPhone box has made him demand an apology.

Chinese man pranked by boss after winning iPhone 17 Pro Max at company party
Taking to the popular Chinese social media site, Jiang revealed that he was thrilled to have won an iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The expensive phone was awarded to him by his boss, and he went to open it in front of the staff.
However, it was no ordinary unboxing, as inside the iPhone 17 Pro Max box was nothing but a few ceramic tiles and a chocolate.
Instead of the $1,500 gadget, he was left with useless bathroom decorations and a whole bowl of disappointment.

In his social media post, the man revealed that the employer – a hospital – never issued the prizes, and it was all a prank from his boss.

Weibo user demands apology from employer after ‘fake phone’ prank
With people flocking to his cause on the website, the man claimed that he wasn’t actually bothered about winning a phone, but was insulted by the prank and wanted a public apology.
“I expected the year of 2026 to have a lucky beginning, and they turned the year-end party into an April Fools’ Day event for me,” said Jiang.

As reported by the South China Morning Post, the second prize was equally as bad: a pillow.
“A year-end party should be an occasion to celebrate the staff’s hard work, instead of kissing the boss’s behind,” one comment read.
“These prizes only show that the companies disrespect their employees and are poor,” added another.
The fake iPhone prank really left a sour taste in the community’s mouth, as Jiang is awaiting his apology.
