iPhone users are only just realizing that there is a hidden security feature that is so powerful that even the FBI can’t hack into it.
We currently operate in a world where our digital footprint has never been more visible.
It takes strenuous effort to make sure your data isn’t shared with third parties, whether it means rejecting cookies all day, making sure your passwords are ‘extra-strong’, or keeping your social media pages clean and private.
But there’s actually a built-in ‘Lockdown mode’ in your iPhone that is a hidden security feature that prevents hackers from getting into your photos, messages, and contacts.

iPhone users are only just learning about ‘Lockdown Mode’
Hackers really can ruin your life, just as one man found out as he enlisted ‘Britain’s biggest fraudster’ in a social experiment.
But one journalist recently went viral for using an Apple iPhone feature that even the FBI couldn’t hack: Lockdown Mode.
Rolled out in iOS 16 in 2022, Lockdown Mode drastically reduces the iPhone’s attack surface by limiting certain features that could be exploited, such as applying message and photo restrictions.
The setting blocks messages and incoming calls from unknown numbers, stops the sending of links and location services, disables live photos and shared albums, and prevents internet connection to older non-secure networks.

It greatly reduces the capability of the iPhone, forcing it into being an old-school SMS sender, but it can be important for public figures who might be subjected to cyberattacks, such as journalists and government officials.
To turn on the hidden safety feature, users can simply head to the Privacy and Security section of their Settings and scroll down to ‘Turn on Lockdown Mode’.
It will restart your phone with the new settings installed.

iPhone is ramping up its hidden security feature game
This isn’t the only method of blocking hackers, although the other settings are more straightforward and will likely be bypassed by the FBI.
Still, for the everyday Joe who is trying to bypass your firewall, features like the ‘block pop-ups’ and ‘fraudulent warning’ switches are easy ways of surfing the web safely.
Other systems, such as AirPlay, are a hacker haven and are advised to be turned off when not in use.

There are also websites that can check whether your data has been compromised and offer advice on changing your passwords.
Apple has put a lot of effort into making its iPhone as safe and secure as possible, and it could even learn from Samsung to go the extra mile with a revolutionary privacy feature.
Still, if you want to make sure you’re safe from the worst offenders, then Apple does have an answer for that, too.
