The subject of Tesla EV performance and travel range in low temperatures has caused heated debate.
Many have launched stinging, pointed criticism of EVs, whilst others have loudly praised them.
Now, a video has been uploaded to YouTube testing how well a Tesla charges in different conditions.
This time, it’s absolutely pouring down with rain.

Tesla takes on the elements
In his video uploaded to YouTube, Jeremy Judkins approaches his electric vehicle whilst it is absolutely bucketing down.
The Florida native, who narrates the video, is wearing a t-shirt and shorts despite the heavy rainfall.
In the video, Jeremy’s EV charger is seen lying on the ground, in what appears to be a puddle.
So, we have lots of water, and lots of electricity which is a recipe for disaster.
Tesla triumphs over terrible weather
As it turns out, the Tesla is completely fine.
“Teslas are designed to charge in the rain – they are water resistant,” Jeremy said.
Thankfully, Jeremy’s faith in Tesla’s craftsmanship was warranted.
Jeremy did not, indeed, explode or get the mother of all electric shocks.
In fact, the car appeared to charge completely normally.
Can Florida’s fierce weather lead to charging risks?
Naturally, however, nothing is ever fully weather proof – and Evs are no exception.
Saltwater is particularly corrosive, and it is especially prevalent in the state of Florida.
Lithium-ion batteries, such as those found in production EVs, are particularly vulnerable.

At its worst, Florida can be subject to up to 15 feet of saltwater during the worst hurricanes and storms.
So, despite the fact that it can charge in a small puddle, don’t use your electric vehicle to wade through water just yet.
