This man took his Tesla Model Y on a huge 10,500-mile journey through a range of challenging climates, from deserts to the Arctic.

Out of Spec Roaming interviewed a man called Solo, who’d taken on a remarkable road trip.

He’d driven from Shanghai in China all the way to Bergen in Norway.

As you can imagine, a journey of that scale brought a lot of interesting landscapes with it.

Driving from China to Norway in a Tesla Model Y – what happened along the way?

It sounds like something straight out of Around the World in 80 Days, but this was all too real.

Solo set off from Shanghai and spent the next 60 days driving across the continent towards Norway.

In that time, he passed through China into Kazakhstan, and then up into Russia.

From there, he passed through the Baltic states and crossed over to Finland on a ferry.

Driving across the north of Sweden, he entered his destination of Norway.

Thanks to the camp mode and bed setup in his car, he was able to sleep practically whenever necessary.

One big problem he encountered came with the GB/T charging port on his Chinese-spec Tesla Model Y, meaning he had to rely on adapters when in Europe.

As adapters can be faulty at times, he had to send a log of failed charging sessions off to the developer, who provided software updates.

But it was in Russia and Kazakhstan that he faced the most challenges.

In Russia, he was hit with payment issues, little to no signal, and GPS dropouts, leading him toward train tracks.

Down in Kazakhstan, chargers were often at gas stations and were scarce.

There’s nothing quite like a big road trip

We’ve seen a lot of people take on ambitious road trips before, although they may not have driven through quite as many diverse regions as Solo did.

There’s the two guys who took a Reliant Robin from London in the UK all the way down to Cape Town in South Africa.

And who could forget the two Brits who revived a Lada to drive it out to Chernobyl?

Then there are road trips that are on the more conventional side, like this man in his Tesla Model 3.
