Police in Texas say they have busted a car theft ring responsible for stealing dozens of vehicles, mostly Chevrolet Camaros and Corvettes, totaling $1.1 million.
Cops say across March and April, five suspects stole a total of 29 cars.
The cars were taken from a dozen or so cities, and many were later sold on.
Now, the Plano Police Department say five suspects have been arrested.

Sadly, car theft is an all-too common occurrence, with an estimated 850,700 in the US last year alone; and no car is immune to it, whether it’s a Ferrari F512 M belonging to an F1 star, or America’s most commonly stolen vehicle.
Over in Texas, cops from the Plano Police Department say they have just shut down a million-dollar car theft ring that was responsible for stealing 29 vehicles.

Cops told NBC 5 News that the first robbery was a Chevrolet Camaro SS that was taken from a gym parking lot back in March.
The theft was actually caught on the victim’s dash cam.
Police said after that first theft, five suspects stole 28 more cars, mainly Camaros and Corvettes, said to be worth around $1.1 million.
Most of the thefts took place in gym or apartment building parking lots.
“Essentially, they’re doing their intel work. They want to know where that vehicle is and where it’s going to be parked later at night to better ensure the fact that they can come back and it’s going to be located there and they’re not wasting their time,” Detective Stephen Howell said.
He went on to say that once the cars were stolen, the suspects shared videos of themselves driving the cars at night, before selling them on.
Howell estimates the car theft ring made around $150,000 in two months.

The suspects were caught after cops launched an investigation into the rented storage units that were used to house the stolen vehicles.
Cops were also able to recover several of the stolen cars.
What cars do thieves target the most?
It seems when it comes to car thefts in the US, thieves are particularly likely to go for powerful Chevrolets, much like the Camaros and Corvettes mentioned above.
According to data from the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI), the Camaro ZL1 is America’s most stolen car, while a standard Camaro is the third most likely to be taken by thieves.
Chevrolet’s parent company, General Motors, has issued a software update for 2020 to 2024 Camaro models to improve security and says it continues to monitor theft patterns with law enforcement.
