Many young people dream of one day being able to cruise the skies as a pilot, but very few get to make their dreams a reality thanks to the sheer cost and skill needed.
But one YouTube creator, Cameron Dillehay, set out to show that dreams can be chased even if you embark on a different career path first.
“Becoming a pilot is an entire career shift,” explained the 25-year-old after he revealed that he quit his six-figure job in finance to chase his pilot passions.

First things first, Cameron explained that to save himself bucks, he moved back home, as although his income had stopped, his bills were still very much in full swing.
But, aside from just taking lessons, there are a whole bunch of costs that we may not have even thought about.
From plane fuel to instructor costs, and either buying or renting a plane, there are many elements, and as you’d expect, the process was not cheap.
There are different avenues that you can go down, including a Part 61 vs a Part 141, both carrying high costs.

Part 141 has a rigid structure that can reduce the hours required and demands full commitment, whereas Part 61 carries a lower cost but may require more flight hours and is ‘less rigorous’ in terms of career track.
You can either rent or buy a plane to help you on your journey, but, in a bid to make some money back, the young man explained that he is a member of an air club.
This means that people pay to use his plane, racking up air hours, with hangar fees and insurance taken care of.
Taking all the different aspects, the ultimate price to control a plane may just make your eyes water, no matter which path you decide to go down.
Costs can vary due to different factors, but expectations with an ATP certificate range from an eye-watering $57,000 to a whopping $171,000.

For now, it’s all eyes on Cameron and his journey to becoming a fully fledged pilot.
“Spoiler: It’s not cheap, but hey, neither is therapy for that midlife crisis,” the pilot said in the description of his video.
Pilots have been revealing the secrets that we all want to know
Being a pilot is no mean feat, but there are still elements about the industry that the public isn’t privy to.
For example, one commercial pilot reveals what really happens behind the cockpit door before takeoff.
Plus, in the ultimate skill test, one Massachusetts pilot found the weirdest airport on Google Maps and attempted to land his plane there.
You can catch the pilot’s breakdown here to decide if you could ever attempt the process yourself.
