Theon Design has just lifted the curtain on its new Porsche 911 Restomod.
Named the ‘R’, it’s what you’d get if you made the new Porsche 911 GT3 look a little more classic.
As well as looking gorgeous, it can even keep up with the latest high-performance version.
But what really is staggering, though, is that it weighs nowhere near as much.

How does Theon Design do it?
The Porsche 911 Restomod is the third to come out of the Oxfordshire shop based on the 964 generation.
It draws its inspiration from models including the original 911 R and the3.2 Club Sport of the 1980s.
There’s something incredibly cool about restomods, like this V10 Chevy Chevelle restomod that should feature in Fast and Furious.
But Theon Design aren’t the only ones tinkering with Porsches; this UK tuner has built a faster, wider, longer 911.
The company starts by taking a donor car and then strips it down to the chassis.
Next, it adds a carbon tub for reinforcement, before topping it with a new body made entirely of carbon fiber.
What makes this Porsche 911 Restomod so special?
Well, for starters its lightweight exterior looks incredibly close to that of an original 911.
That being said, it’s received some crucial aerodynamic tweaks, such as a redesigned front splitter, fender flares, and a whale tail spoiler.
How light is it?
Because Theon Design uses the lightest materials available, despite the other mods, the Porsche 911 Restomod tips the scales at just 2,200 lbs (998 kg).
To put that into perspective, that makes the ‘R’ 1,000 lbs (454 kg) lighter than the new GT3, and even lighter than the current Mazda Miata, which weighs in at 2,300 lbs (1,043 kg).
Developed for and by enthusiasts
Under the hood of the restomod lies an air-cooled 4.0-liter flat-six sending power to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
That lump pumps out 500 horsepower, 295 lb-ft of torque, and redlines at 9,000 rpm.
Yes, you’re right in thinking, those figures out the restomod in line with the 992.2-generation GT3, which produces 502 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque.
While performance is nearly identical, too, with both Porsches completing the 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) sprint in three seconds flat, the ‘R’ has a better power-to-weight ratio than any current 911.
It’s worth mentioning the R’s suspension system, which was developed in collaboration with Motion Control Suspension.
On each corner there are bespoke dampers, ensuring a smooth ride no matter the type of surface.
How much does the Porsche 911 Restomod cost?
Now for the all-important bit – how much it’ll set you back.
It’s certainly not cheap, with the price tag an eye-watering $1 million – and you have to provide the donor car.
You’ll have to be quick if you want one, though, as Theon Design plans to build just 24 examples of the restomod.
