‘Autobots, assemble’ is a cry we’re all too familiar with from the booming voice of Optimus Prime, but while the Cybertron gang is completely sci-fi, this tech wizard has made a real, homemade robot transformer car that is cooler than anything in the movies.
Back in 2007, when Bumblebee’s 1976 Chevrolet Camaro stumbled into Shia LeBeouf’s possession and warped into a colossal friendly killer robot, technology seemed light years behind recreating these characters in real life.
But people tried, nonetheless, to bring the Autobots to life.
Now, arguably the coolest version yet has been made, as YouTuber and robotics guru James Bruton has built a transformer that actually works as a car.

Robots now walk among us, and even drive among us.
But the Transformer race has yet to be perfected with modern technology. Some have tried and been successful in making rather awesome builds, but they have all had one major flaw.
The car mechanical hybrids are impossible to drive, often being huge RCs instead of functioning vehicles.
James Burton is determined to change that and has now made a functioning homemade robot transformer that can be driven.
Well, sort of.

In a recent upload to his channel, Burton showcased expert robotics work.
Using 3D printed parts, gearboxes, motors, and more tech than you could wrap your head around, he started by building the robot’s legs.
With coding, mechanisms, and engineering methods that are too complicated for us to comprehend, the tech whizz ended by putting the car body on the outside of the robot’s frame.
With the head attached last, the homemade robot transformer stood over six feet tall.
So, how do you drive it?
Well, Burton claims that the hardest part of making a transformer is creating the space inside the vehicle to be able to sit in.
In that case, why not just sit on it instead?
Much akin to those child-like Mini Jeep motors some lucky kids sported as youngsters, this transformer folds into a small car that you can mount yourself and drive from above.

The only thing missing to live up to the Transformers movies is the weapons.
While this is his own creation and not a replication of Prime or Bee, his arsenal could be unique, but he’d need a blade or two to help defend humanity when Megatron comes calling.
Still, given the admirable efforts all around to recreate this magnificent bionic race, Burton’s somewhat drivable elements set it above anything we’ve seen before.
