When you line the Titanic up with the current world’s biggest cruise ships, it makes for a staggering comparison.

Despite its ill-fated voyage, the Titanic is undoubtedly the world’s most famous cruise ship.

It was the largest ship in the world when it set sail back in 1912.

But now in 2025, there are many ships that are even bigger.

The Titanic is nothing compared to the world’s biggest cruise ships

There’s no two ways about it – the Titanic holds a very significant place in history, and not just because of the tragedy tied to its name.

It weighed 48,328 gross tons, was 882 feet long, 92 feet wide, and had a passenger capacity of 2,435.

All totally respectable numbers, and for the time, it was beyond compare.

But nowadays, it would be considered a mid-size ship by passenger capacity.

Some of the heavy hitters of the modern day dwarf it by comparison.

The Norwegian Aqua weighs in at 156,300 tons, is 1,056 feet long, and carries up to 3,571 passengers.

Meanwhile, The Icon of the Seas is 248,663 tons, 1,196 foot long, and can carry 5,160 passengers.

The Carnival Jubilee clocks in at 183,521 tons, 1,130 feet, and 5,362 passengers.

But the runaway champ in terms of passenger capacity is the MSC World America, which can carry 6,762 passengers.

It’s not quite as long or heavy as the Icon of the Seas, but it holds its own with 216,638 tons and 1,092 feet.

Not only would the Titanic appear small by comparison nowadays, but it’d also be relatively cheap to make.

In today’s money, it’d cost $400 million to build – a pittance compared to the $2 billion spent on the Icon of the Seas.

Living the high life out at sea

Regardless of size or passenger capacity, cruise ships are commonly thought of as a luxury.

Most people would dream of a luxurious cruise, and those who get to go on them enjoy them thoroughly.

In fact, some people take it to the next level – and live on them indefinitely.

One couple have booked 51 back-to-back cruises to stay out of a retirement home, which seems like a pretty sound plan to us.

Another woman living on a cruise ship declared it was cheaper than living in California.

But it’s not all sunshine and sangria, as this woman revealed.
