This tiny, retro toy wreck truck sold for a shocking price and ended up costing more than a real-life, full-size Dacia Sandero.
A rare 1965 Matchbox Wreck Truck with iconic colors went under the hammer at an auction in January in Stockton, United Kingdom.
The tiny truck sold for a record price and four times its estimated value, shocking the auctioneers, but seemingly, it makes sense for collectors of matchbox cars.
This tiny toy wreck truck was so valuable and sought after due to its very limited run and its color variation, which differed from the standard version.

How can this toy wreck truck cost more than a Dacia Sandero?
A lot of people’s childhoods were filled with the joy of playing with tiny little matchbox toy cars.
Whether it’s out of nostalgia or gearheads wanting a tiny version of their beloved cars, the resale market for retro matchbox cars is alive and thriving.
On 22 January, lot 18 in the ‘Matchbox Magic’ sale at Stockton-based Vectis Auctions was filled with some truly iconic and nostalgia-boosting little matchbox cars.

One stood out among the rest, a seemingly innocuous 1965 Matchbox Wreck Truck, which set a new benchmark when it sold for an eyewatering price.
What the truck?
The retro toy wreck truck sold for $17,417.89, which included the buyer’s premium and was four times its estimated value.
It also set a new record for the sale of this type of toy truck for the auction house.
The reasons why this tiny little truck is so valuable are twofold.
Firstly, this specific BP-branded truck had an extremely limited run, so it is extremely rare.
What makes this truck even rarer, though, is its colors.
The standard truck came with a lemon-yellow cab and green body, but the version that was sold in Stockton had a green cab and a lemon-yellow body.
Collectors knew that there would be very few occasions to get their hands on this iconic and rare truck, so it’s no surprise that it came with a hefty price tag.
The eye-watering price probably had auctioneers saying: ‘What the truck?’
