The Volvo XC90 has been put through one of the most extreme safety evaluations imaginable, wedged between two heavy trucks in a brutal multi-impact test.
It’s the kind of scenario no driver ever wants to picture.
A head-on collision is bad enough.
Being caught in the middle of two 15-ton trucks is an entirely different equation.

The Volvo XC90 cabin stays intact under crushing pressure
A video posted to YouTube by Vision Effect TV shows the luxury SUV placed between two trucks in what’s being called a ‘sandwich’ crash test conducted by Chinese automotive media.
First, the XC90 slams into the rear of the truck ahead.
Then, moments later, another truck barrels into its back, compressing the SUV between both heavy vehicles.
From the outside, it looks catastrophic.

The bonnet crumples dramatically, glass shatters, and the rear end absorbs a heavy blow as the second truck connects.
However, the key detail isn’t what breaks – it’s what doesn’t.
The passenger cabin holds its shape.
According to the analysis, 33 percent of the Volvo XC90’s body structure uses ultra-high-strength boron steel, which is designed to preserve survival space during severe impacts.
The A-pillars – those structural supports framing the windshield – remain upright, preventing the roof from collapsing even under massive compression.

Viewers noted another green flag.
“Those airbags dropped in record time,” one wrote.
Even more telling, the doors were reportedly still able to be opened manually after the collision – a critical factor in post-crash safety.

Volvo’s long-standing safety legacy
Volvo has built its brand on safety for decades, and tests like this only reinforce that image.
While this isn’t a standardized lab procedure, the multi-impact setup arguably mimics a worst-case highway scenario more realistically than many controlled tests.
It shows how the XC90’s cage-like design redirects energy away from occupants rather than allowing it to collapse inward.

Owners watching the footage didn’t seem surprised.
One commenter said they had ‘no regrets owning an XC90,’ while another described it as a ‘clear example of Volvo for life.’
Unstoppable might be a bold word.
But when you watch an SUV absorb two truck impacts and keep its cabin intact, you understand why people use it.
