Tesla has held the line on Apple CarPlay for more than a decade – the one feature its fans kept asking for and the one feature the company kept shrugging off.

But for the first time, that stance appears to be shifting.

Multiple reports say the company is now actively working on CarPlay support.

Now the big question everyone wants answered is: when will it roll out?

When Tesla is actually expected to roll out Apple CarPlay

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports Tesla is now testing Apple CarPlay internally, backed by several people familiar with the development.

They say the company is targeting a release ‘in the coming months,’ which is the clearest timeline it has ever given – though plans aren’t final and could shift depending on how testing goes.

The source also outlines what Tesla’s version will look like.

They say that CarPlay won’t take over the entire screen the way it does in most cars.

Instead, it will run inside a window within Tesla’s own interface.

And Tesla will use the standard wireless version of CarPlay, not Apple’s new CarPlay Ultra system that began rolling out this year.

Forum users are already speculating about when the first signs might appear.

Some believe it could surface in the annual Holiday Update, noting that firmware version 2025.44 has just begun reaching cars and often acts as the baseline for features toggled on later.

However, none of this has been confirmed by the company.

What is confirmed is the shift in direction: Tesla is now actively preparing CarPlay support, with internal testing underway.

Why this move is a major reversal for the company

With CarPlay in the works, it’s hard to ignore how unusual this is for Tesla.

For years, the company and Elon Musk ignored requests for CarPlay entirely, even as buyers cited its absence as a reason to choose other cars.

Its system currently supports Apple Music and Apple Podcasts, but never CarPlay.

If Tesla follows through, this will be one of the most significant software changes the brand has made in years.

Ending a long-running standoff and giving owners a feature many had written off as impossible.
