A Utah car dealer just helped pull off one of the wildest Tesla surprises of the year when a friend’s wife secretly bought her husband a new 2026 Tesla Model X Plaid and teamed up with him to add wild customizations.
The plan snowballed fast once they started picking colors, trims, and upgrades, and in the end, the Plaid was set to get a full makeover worthy of a six-figure EV.
She wanted the SUV to feel tougher and more masculine without losing the sleek Tesla vibe, which meant going beyond a simple wrap.
By the time they finished planning, this ‘surprise gift’ had turned into a full custom masterpiece.

Customizations for the brand-new 2026 Model X Plaid
This YouTuber was given the project of a lifetime by his friend’s wife, who asked him to help her customize the sport utility EV of her husband’s dreams.
The Model X she had chosen arrived fresh from the Tesla store in a new gray-beige finish, but that didn’t last long.

The shop walked her through dozens of wrap options until both landed on the same conclusion: a dark matte black to green shifting wrap.
The color popped against the beige interior and gave the SUV a more aggressive presence without going full blackout.
To protect the front from little rocks chipping the expensive new body, they planned a partial PPF protection on the hood, fenders, and mirrors.
They also decided to add some window tinting, too, making it seem more exclusive and cutting out glare.

The YouTuber also suggested swapping out the factory Plaid badge for a black-and-silver version to avoid clashing with the new color, but still keeping it looking smart.
Wheels became the next big decision, and because the new owner is a golfer and frequent traveler, they wanted something durable and sharp.
The shop promised to mock up multiple rim designs with AI so she could choose the toughest and most menacing-looking option.
But if the stock wheels were to stay, then the calipers would be repainted black for a cleaner finish.

More upgrades to finish the makeover
To pull it all together, his friend’s wife decided to add a carbon fiber front and some snazzy rear diffusers.
The dark green wrap, black accents, and new wheels would certainly turn the Plaid from a fun family SUV to a fully customized performance truck.
The YouTuber thinks that the whole project would take about a week once all the materials arrive, and they planned a before-and-after reveal for the husband when he finally sees what she’s been hiding.
He nearly bought himself a Model X days earlier, unaware she had already ordered one behind his back, and she had to let the cat out of the bag.
Now he’s getting a version far cooler than anything in the showroom.
