EVs are taking over the world, not just the auto industry – and the largest electric vehicle we’ve ever seen comes in the form of a ship.

The huge vessel generates so much power that it could give factories a run for their money.

Born from an Australian-designed concept and driven by advanced EV engineering, China Zorilla is already reshaping expectations of what electric transport can do.

Capable of carrying over 2,000 passengers without burning a drop of fuel, the ship is set to make waves in South America.

Meet the largest electric vehicle from Incat Tasmania

China Zorilla has been powered up for the very first time and is capable of transporting over 220 vehicles and a whopping 2,100 passengers.

Known internally as Hull 96, the ship spans 13 meters and underwent the first waterborne trial before it sets sail to South America in the upcoming months.

The ship is so powerful that it could rival a Tesla dealership

The China Zorilla EV vessel takes to the ocean with power from over 250 tons of batteries, which enable the Energy Storage System to distribute more than 40 megawatt hours of capacity.

The company claims that this is ‘four times larger than any previous maritime battery installation in the world’.

This ESS is connected to eight electric water jets from Wartsila, which power the boat out on the open sea.

To put that into a car perspective for you, the guys over at Auto Evolution worked out that it’s the same power as 487 Teslas.

Impressive right?

“This is the first time a ship of this size, anywhere in the world, has been trialed under 100 percent battery-electric propulsion. It’s a remarkable achievement by our workforce and a turning point for shipbuilding,” Incat Chairman Robert Clifford said

The ship’s route takes customers from Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Colonia, Uruguay, and is operated by Buquebus.

The largest electric vehicle on Earth is still set to undergo some tests before it departs for good, and after the success of the first, things are looking promising for Incat Tasmania’s creation.

After all, it was described as a ‘defining moment in maritime history’.
