No one likes traffic jams, no matter where your end destination, and it seems that in China, the country fell victim to what became the world’s worst traffic jam.
Lasting a mammoth 12 days, the rows of cars caused endless gridlock and issues for miles on end.
It was all down to pesky roadworks causing chaos.
The most shocking element, though, may be the alleged speed at which the cars were going.

The world’s worst traffic jam: Here’s what you need to know
In many ways, China is ahead in the car sphere.
From advancements in technology to ground-breaking EV releases, the country has come to dominate the market, but once upon a time, things quite literally came to a halt, and it all happened over a decade ago.
In August of 2010, on highway G110, which runs near the areas of Hebei and Inner Mongolia, an enormous event took place.

Now, we should note that due to the sheer population of the country, a big traffic jam is no unusual sight, but for a jam to be this long was out of the ordinary.
The jam soon piled up and lasted a mighty 12 days, that’s 288 hours, over two work weeks, and thanks to the long duration, the traffic ordeal soon came to be known as the world’s worst traffic jam.
For over 62 miles, as far as the eye could see, cars jammed the roads, with reports even suggesting that, to make the best out of a bad situation, roadside vendors appeared, selling food and water.
The cause?

Well, it has been said that roadworks were to blame, but these were needed to repair damage to the roads that was caused by lorries carrying cargo.
But it reduced the size of the road – and therefore how many cars it could comfortably withstand – by half.
So, what should have been a short-term loss, long-term gain situation, was actually more like a long-term loss.

Is that a snail? No, it’s a sedan
As you can imagine, the cars didn’t hit normal highway speeds, with some reports stating that the cars involved in the world’s worst traffic jam only moved a small distance over those 12 days.
Unofficial sources claim measurements that range from 0.6 miles to 0.8 miles to even 2 miles per day – whatever the actual unit, we can all agree that walking the length of the highway would have been quicker.
Can you imagine being stuck in a traffic jam for days on end?
Well, for these motorists, it was a harsh reality, so next time you’re stuck in a jam on the way to your destination that adds 10 minutes on, thank yourself lucky that it wasn’t 12 days.
Imagine explaining that one to your boss.
