There’s a 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am going for sale on Craigslist which has spent its whole life with one owner.

That owner being a ‘little old lady’ – who obviously wasn’t old when she first took the car home.

The car, on sale in San Jose, California, comes in beautiful condition regardless, even if the engine is a little mysterious.

The backstory of the Pontiac Trans Am

The listing explained that the car’s owner was a marine, meaning there’s a good chance she spent years away from home.

This might go some way to explaining why the car is in such tip-top condition and only has 66,000 miles on the odometer.

The Firebird was first produced in 1967, before being discontinued in 2002.

In 1978, over 187,000 were produced, with 117,000 being sold over the car’s next iteration.

Over 93,000 were sold in 1978, compared to the original Firebird which fell short at only 32,671 units.

Fast forward to the present day and this beauty has found itself listed on Craigslist.

Coated with a rare Chesterfield Brown paint, the car is in pristine condition with a spotless interior.

There may be some minor rusting on the vehicle, but it’s unlikely to be a concern.

The best bet is to put the car on a lift to inspect the underside.

The mysterious engine inside the Trans Am

The engine under the hood is a very intriguing element to this car’s story.

Although the seller claims that it’s running, that’s all that is known about it.

It’s probably best to get a mechanic to have a look.

The most popular engine for this car traditionally has been the L78 400, with the L80 403 making an appearance in significantly fewer units – approximately 10,000 cars in all.

The car is going for $30,000 over on Craigslist.

Head over and take a look if this sounds like your dream ride.

Admittedly, as far as Craigslist goes, a car owned by a former marine is a pretty standard find.

One man purchased an entire cruise ship off the site and lives in it.

You never know what you might find on the internet.
