Mustang GTD vs Shelby GT500 – which is superior?

Have you ever wondered which of the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD and 2020 Shelby Mustang GT500 is the better car?

It is an interesting question, because both muscle cars represent power and prestige in their own way.

The Shelby Mustang GT500 represents decades of muscle-car legacy on the street.

Its supercharged, 5.2-liter Predator V8 is a familiar and beloved noise on the streets of America.

By contrast, the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD embodies the modern philosophy of Ford engineering.

It takes lessons learned from GT3 racing and applies them to a street-legal, carbon fiber driveshaft.

Not to mention that its 5.2-liter, supercharged V8 makes it the most powerful street-legal Mustang ever produced.

So, which one is the superior muscle car for the streets of today?

Well, one YouTuber asked the same question – so he decided to find out.

Vinny Giglio is the man behind the VINGIGGS automotive YouTube channel.

The American just so happens to have a pair of keys for both cars in question.

So he decided to hit the roads in both to determine which is the ultimate Blue Oval offering.

Straight off the bat, there is a very clear and obvious observation to be made.

It was clear that the Mustang Shelby GT500 was born to be king of Detroit when it was released in 2020.

But the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is a completely different type of beast.

One car is the embodiment of classic brute force, whilst the other is the ultimate, dialled-in track weapon.

Both are great – but Ford Mustang GTD is a different level

Of course, one should note that both cars essentially share the same beating heart.

The GT500 still boasts a rip-roaring, 760bhp powerplant, and its growl will never not be a head-turner.

But stepping into the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is like stepping into a different type of beast.

It is less John Rambo and more Terminator – technology and power harnessed into the ultimate weapon.

It comes with a Nurburgring pedigree that has Europe’s finest sitting up and taking notice.

Giglio himself summed it up best when he said the GT500 shoves, and the GTD pulls.

If you want old-school, American power and muscle, then the GT500 is the car for you.

But if you want an American car that can take it to Europe’s finest on the asphalt…

Then you are looking at a new generation of American performance in the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD.
