Six years after his first outing as Stephen Strange, Benedict Cumberbatch has hit the big screen again in the promising sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

In the Sam Raimi-directed instalment, Dr Strange will have to travel through the Multiverse to protect it from Wanda Maximoff AKA Scarlet Witch, a former Avenger-turned-antagonist played by Elizabeth Olsen.

Patrick Stewart and Chiwetel Ejiofor both reprise their roles as Charles Xavier AKA Professor X and Karl Mordo respectively, along with Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, who is Dr Strange’s colleague and love interest.

Keen fans and watch lovers may have spotted another familiar face that’s going to come back for this sequel: the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra-Thin Perpetual Calendar watch that Dr Strange is wearing in the trailer.

It features at the beginning of the trailer with the watch crystal shattered, which could hint at it playing a big part in the film.

More about the Dr Strange watch

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra-Thin Perpetual Calendar comes in with a self-explanatory name because it is indeed very thin (only 9mm or almost 3/8 inch) and incorporates a perpetual calendar.

This complication takes leap years and moon phases into account, making it a fitting watch for Dr Strange, allowing him to know what time and year it is in each universe.

It is a handsome piece from one of the world’s greatest watchmakers worn by one of Hollywood’s most accomplished actors.

All of this, as you’d expect, is reflected in the price tag of the watch, which is $23,300.

Quick specs of the watch

  • Case: Stainless steel with a diameter of 39 mm (1.5 inches)
  • Dial: Silvered grey, silver-powdered, polished black nickel appliques
  • Hands: Dauphines
  • Straps: Black leather
  • Functions: Year, perpetual calendar, date, hour – minute, day, month, moon phases, seconds
  • Movement: Automatic, self-winding
  • Power reserve: 38 hours
