It’s crossed all of our minds – parking lot spaces are getting smaller but vehicles are getting bigger.

There’s nothing more frustrating than finding a space, only to realize the cars parked either side are so close to the line, you’ll never be able to open your doors.

It’s a regular occurrence, but a parking lot in Australia is going viral for its ‘genius’ feature to combat the problem.

The parking lot, at the Glebe Hill Village Shopping Centre in Tasmania, has adapted its parking spaces.

Instead of just using a simple white line between each space, it’s marked out rectangular boxes.

This means that instead of the white line that’s just a few centimeters wide, there’s a foot or two between them – something which brings several benefits.

For starters, it means that when you park in one of these spaces, you’re pretty much guaranteed to be able to crack your door and get out.

It also lowers the chances of opening your door and hitting the car next to yours, or vice versa, accidentally leaving a dent behind.

What’s more, it also makes the process of pulling in and out of the space much easier, as there’s more room to reposition your car and make turns.

After all, we don’t all own a BMW with Artificial Intelligence that can help you park without being in it, or a robot that can physically lift your car and park it for you.

Of course, there is one drawback to the unique solution – there will be fewer overall spaces in the parking lot, but most people will agree it’s a trade-off worth making.

It comes as no surprise that photos of the lot posted on the Tasmania Parking Fails Facebook page are attracting rave reviews.

Some commented are calling it “genius”, while other locals are labelling the lot an “absolute elite parking experience”.

We won’t be the only ones keeping our fingers crossed that we start seeing this cool feature in other lots around the world, not just in Australia.
