A YouTuber found an abandoned Gulfstream III (G-III) private jet that had been sitting in storage in California for years, so he decided to buy it.
Most of the purchase attempt’s motivation could be explained by ‘who doesn’t want to own a private jet for cheap?’
What’s more, this Gulfstream was more like a time capsule because it had stranded just before a scheduled flight some seven or eight years ago.
However, it came with too many red flags, but then again, the heart wants what it wants.

Man found abandoned Gulfstream III and wanted to buy it
The host from the YouTube channel JR Aviation heard about an abandoned Gulfstream III (G-III) in Southern California, so he decided to check it out.
He also posted a video about it, sharing the story of how he bid too high just to get the plane.
Now, buying a used private jet is often a high-risk expense, but buying an abandoned one can be hazardous.
The listing mentioned it came with some minor damage on the wing and a missing logbook, which was already a huge red flag.
But there was something even worse — it had missing avionics equipment.
Without going into the specifics, there were a lot of necessary and expensive computers missing inside the cockpit.
That fact alone would keep most enthusiasts away from buying a used aircraft — let alone an abandoned one.
But this YouTuber couldn’t help but look past that.
After all, getting a private jet for pennies on the dollar is as tempting as it gets.
Especially if it’s one of the most expensive and luxurious private jets of a previous era.
A mysterious private jet
Another peculiar detail about this plane was probably the state it was left in.
The YouTuber found everything inside the cabin intact, as the crew left it years ago, so it looked like a time capsule.
It had arranged seating, completely filled food trays, and wine bottles in the drawer — the whole package.
Now, it wasn’t as fancy as Jeff Bezos’ modern Gulfstream private jet, but you get the point.
The G-III came before the G-IV that Tom Cruise owns, so you know it was one of the best back then.
As alluring as this Gulfstream was, calling it a risky purchase would be an understatement.
The missing equipment and repairs would set the YouTuber back by hundreds of thousands of dollars, not to mention the entire saga of engine checks, licensing, and inspections.
All in all, getting it back to the air wouldn’t be an easy task, and certainly not budget-friendly.
In the end, someone outbid the YouTuber, so he never got the chance to fulfill his dream.
Whoever got it either owned a few banks or knew for sure what they bought and what they wanted to do with this plane.
