This couple has been fixing up an abandoned superyacht they found under a tarp in Alaska, and they’ve announced they are never going to live on land again.

Janis and Blaine Carmena are crazy about boats, and when they found 78 78-foot abandoned superyacht under a tarp in Alaska, they decided it was time to renovate it and take to the seas forever.

It’s taken thousands of hours to get the aluminum trawler back into shape and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to renovate it.

The couple used eBay purchases to try and keep costs down, so it truly was a labor of love.

Many people get sick of the 9-5 and have crazy fantasies of jacking it all in and moving onto a boat to sail the world, but rarely do people actually do it.

This couple and their two children, however, are putting their money where their mouths are and actually going to sail in their renovated superyacht, Tangaroa.

The couple found the 78-foot abandoned aluminium trawler under a tarp, slowly rusting away in Alaska, but they decided to rescue her and get her ship-shape again, sharing their experience online, through Onboard Tangaroa.

It’s taken thousands of hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars to get her back on the water, and in order to save a bit of money, the couple sourced parts in savvy eBay auctions.

The couple wasn’t joking when they said they said they were going to sail the world forever, they are having a bon voyage party, and then moving onto their abandoned superyacht for the rest of their lives.

The couple and their 17-year-old daughter Izzy will be moving onto the boat full time, but their 21-year-old son, Josh, has decided he will be staying on land with family.

The boat is ready to go, and on the 7th July, they will be setting sail forever.
