This Alabama man’s 1,300-strong car collection began with a heartwarming mission to give back to those most in need.

Cardboard magnate Greg Rusk may be the owner of America’s largest car collection.

At least half of them were bought for way more than they’re worth in a bid to help out struggling families.

Now, the collection is going up for sale in a multi-part auction, and you could get the chance to take home a part of this massive collection.

Taking a closer look inside the 1,300-strong car collection of Greg Rusk

The first batch of Rusk’s cars – more than 200 vehicles – will be going up for sale later this month.

Around 150 of said cars are already online in what Hagerty Marketplace is calling the Generous Collection.

The diversity of this lineup is awe-inspiring, as it includes Mazda RX-8s, pickup trucks, German cars, and old conversion vans.

Don’t think that these cars are garage queens, though, they have plenty of miles on them.

So, how exactly did Rusk come to own so many of these cars?

Well, it starts with his company – Rusken Packaging Inc., a cardboard packaging company based in Alabama.

Founded in 1974 by Rusk’s father, it became his in 1992.

In the years since, he’s grown the company exponentially – it now has 19 facilities in 10 states and is the dominant packaging supplier in the Southeast.

With all that money flowing into his account, he decided to pursue some of his dreams.

At first, his aim was to collect a Cadillac from every year of the company’s history, with the aim of opening up a museum.

From there, he expanded out to other cars, including Chevelles, Pontiac Firebird Trans Ams, Corvettes, and much more.

A good deed goes a long way

Once people in the local community caught wind of Rusk’s car collecting hobby, they began going to him with their own vehicles.

For some, selling their car opened up a window for them to buy a house or pay off a hefty medical bill.

Rusk would then pay ‘overly generous fees’ in order to acquire said vehicle.

And when we say ‘overly generous’, we more way more than the cars were actually worth.

It’s no wonder Hagerty has called this the Generous Collection.

It’s estimated that around half of his sizable collection has been sourced from nearby communities throughout Alabama.

When it came to bringing a car into the fold, Rusk had two conditions.

One was that it was unique and cool, the other was that someone in need was selling it.

There certainly are a lot of cool cars in this collection, including a 1999 Chevrolet S-10 Xtreme 5-Speed, a 1953 Jaguar XK120 Roadster, and many, many more.

This isn’t the first impressive car collection we’ve seen, however.

For one California businessman, his lineup of Ferraris has to be organized by color, as it’s so big.

And what talk of car collections would be complete without a nod to Jay Leno himself?

If you want to be in with a chance of taking home one of these stunning cars, head over to the Generous Collection on Hagerty.
