When this guy thought his neighbor had brought home a Lamborghini prototype, he was so impressed that he went straight online to show it off.

Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out the way he expected.

He was very quickly batted down by people who said he had no idea what he was talking about.

But if you take a look at the photo, you can understand why he was confused.

Lamborghini prototype spotted in the wild?

In case you’re unsure what a prototype is, they’re cars brought to life before certain production models are rolled out.

They represent the purest, most unfiltered version of what could be possible with that vehicle, unbound by costs or manufacturing constraints.

When it comes to car spotting, some enthusiasts are top of their game, able to instantly recognise the make and model.

But for others, especially supercar lovers, things can get a little trickier, as this person found out.

Over on Reddit, user HarryO2008 thought he had something truly special parked up next door.

While it did look impressive, and there were details that could make you think it was a prototype, people jumped in with some unfortunate news for Harry.

“Nah that’s a production Lambo, the Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato,” one person said.

“Looks way too close to the production version to be a prototype. Maybe the company he works for tuned it, and the tune is the “prototype”, but the car itself appears to be the final production version,” another said.

“It’s not a prototype, it’s literally a production car called the Huracan Sterrato,” said a third.

But not everyone was of the same opinion.

“As a testing engineer at Porsche I can tell you guys, sometimes prototypes are cars that look exactly like production versions, because that’s what the company is prototyping, how the product looks when it actually gets delivered. At Porsche we call these 0-Serie. And yes, that car is a prototype in the system,” one said.

The Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato is incredibly rare

The Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato was first unveiled to the world in 2022 and has since found its way onto many drivers’ wishlists.

In fact, Lamborghini itself even describes the car as ‘the first of its kind’ with the sports car having ‘Lamborghini Integrated Vehicle Dynamics’.

With rally mode, it’s able to reach a maximum speed of 260 km/h.

It’s priced at $278,000 and is known as one of the rarest Lamborghinis available today, thanks to only 1,499 ever being made.

“It represents the leading edge of innovation: the super sports car concept imagined in a radically new way,” the company said.

You can find the Lamborghini on Reddit below, and decide whether you think it’s actually a Lamborghini prototype or not.
