In the wake of the infamous ‘bendgate’ era of the iPhone 6, Apple execs challenge people to try and bend the iPhone Air in the ultimate test of its durability.

The iPhone Air was announced two days ago, so called because of its lightweight and thin build, coming after the jokes that phones are only getting bigger and chunkier.

Even though they are known as the thinnest iPhones yet, the iPhone Air is super thin but allegedly super strong, with Apple asking people to test its durability by trying to snap it.

Built with aerospace-grade aluminium and reinforced glass, this skinny device packs a mean punch.

Apple execs challenge people to try to bend the iPhone Air

We all know that sometimes Apple gadgets can be a bit…flimsy, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t good.

With the announcement of Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet, the iPhone Air is said to be slim, but that doesn’t make it any more susceptible to damage.

Built with the lightest materials they could use, like aerospace-grade aluminium and reinforced glass, Apple is actually encouraging stress-testers of the device to try and bend it.

In a clever marketing move, Apple is harkening back to the ‘bendgate’ era of the iPhone 6, where people could easily bend their devices with their bare hands, and by making it a challenge, it’s going to sell more.

Like all tech, the iPhone Air would’ve gone through rigorous stress-testing, but turning this potential weakness into an attention-grabbing headline is a great idea.

Reversing ‘bendgate’ for good

Apple’s new marketing tactic is a very smart move because it has already created a buzz on social media, and it’s available for pre-order from today.

When the Airs start delivering, it will be interesting to see how many people buy Apple’s thinnest iPhone just to see whether they can pass the challenge.

Some people who’ve had early access to the newest device have attempted to try and bend it, without much luck, suggesting that the new, slim iPhone will be just as durable as it promises to be.

Despite being light as air, it’s as strong as rock, but only time will tell if Apple’s claims are true.
