This incredibly rare Subaru might have tricked someone into thinking it could fetch $1M due to its scarcity.

You would be shocked to see that this iconic performance car tips the scales at just 1,200 kg, because it looks dense.

The carbon fiber body and limited-run style are an homage to Subaru’s history, as well as coming with a hefty price tag of a whopping $934,000.

It seems crazy to have such a large price tag on a Subaru performance car, but there’s something special about the Prodrive P25.

Incredibly rare Subaru could fetch almost $1M due to its scarcity

When we say incredibly rare Subaru, we really do mean incredibly rare, because only 25 units were ever produced.

Now, this blue Subaru Prodrive P25 has come up for auction with an asking price of $934,000.

This comes after a silver one with an asking price of $560,000 failed to sell recently at Bonhams.

The blue two-door WRX shell has a super lightweight body made up of carbon fiber parts, including the hood and roof, meaning it only tips the scales at a very light 1,200 kg.

Underneath the hood, there’s no lack of classic meticulous Subaru engineering, like fitted forged pistons, a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine, and a snazzy new Garrett turbocharger.

The performance car could’ve tricked someone

While the super lightweight car is an homage to Subaru’s surprising racing past, and it does come with all the bells and whistles, it seems to have a very generous price tag all things considered.

It could be the fact that it kicks out 440 horsepower and 6,000 revs per minute, or the fact in can launch like a rocket from 0 to 60 mph in under three seconds.

However, maybe the fact that only 25 of these cars were ever made may support the incredibly high price tag, because the car not only looks good, but there aren’t many available to get your hands on.

In February this year, the auction house Bonhams sold a model in silver with only 190 miles on the clock, but it didn’t even reach its reserve; it was predicted to sell for between $635,000 – $769,000, a shocking development.

The car up for auction on RaceCarsForYou has 690 miles on the clock, but is painted in the classic Subaru blue, so this one, while it has more miles, is much more of a classic Subaru, which is what collectors will be looking for.

Only time will tell whether this car will sell at auction for all of its almost $1 million price tag, we certainly hope that this piece of Subaru history won’t go ignored.
