Audi R8: The supercar that changed the game
As you might know by now, the R8 is one of the world’s most beloved supercars.
When it was unveiled at the Paris Auto Show in 2006, it turned more than a few heads.
It’s phenomenal 4.2-liter, V8 FSI engine quickly captured the imagination of fans and experts alike.
The German supercar was lauded for it’s exceptional handling, owing to the legendary Quattro four-wheel drive system.
In 2009, the company stepped it up, producing an even more iconic engine for its supercar slam dunk.

The 5.2-liter, V10 FSI produced 525HP, and saw the supercar smash a 0-60 time of just over three seconds.
Sadly, Audi fans were gutted when, in May 2019, Audi announced that the R8 would be phased out.
With production initially ending in October 2023, demand surged so much that Audi had to extend it into 2024.
And just like that, it was over – the supercar was dead and buried, never to be built again.
Or was it?
R8 revival on the horizon?
The truth is, the lack of all-electric demand might be saving the R8 from history.
Like other companies, Audi previously made commitments to an all-electric line-up of cars.
However, actual demand simply hasn’t added up – with hybrids being the much preferred option.
Naturally, this – as well as the realities of the market – has led Audi to reconsider its offerings.

Although unconfirmed, reports have suggested that work has gone beyond the planning phase.
Apparently, actual engineering work is happening as we speak to bring its famed supercar back to life.
Another Audi x Lamborghini crossover?
Audi has always enjoyed extreme success when it collaborates with Lamborghini.
For those who don’t know, Lamborghini is actually owned by the German marque.
However, Audi itself is a member of the Volkswagen Group.
The first generation R8 was built on the platform of the Lamborghini Gallardo.
Interestingly, the second generation was developed off the platform of Lamborghini’s hell-raising Huracan.
At this point, it only makes sense to assume that the newest R8 will collaborate with Lamborghini again.
And Lamborghini is producing the perfect car to plan the new R8 around.
The Italian brand is set to release the brand new Temerario later this year.

It’s latest supercar offering comes with a twin-turbo V8, as well as three electric motors.
And it appears highly likely that this sophisticated powertrain will serve as the basis for the new R8.
If this is true, the rebooted car could well sit at around the 900HP range.
The new car is also very likely to preserve the Quattro, its four-wheel drive system, as well.
For now, though, supercar fans everywhere can breathe a huge sigh of relief.
Because it appears that the R8 isn’t going anywhere yet.
