BMW put its new iX3 through a real-world range test, and it absolutely smashed its estimated range, managing to clock up 626 miles on a single charge.

The German carmaker unveiled the second-generation BMW iX3 earlier this year

At the time, specs shared alongside the new car said it was good for a little under 500 miles of WLTP range.

However, in a recent test, the EV was able to beat that by more than 100 miles – here’s how they did it.

The BMW iX3 managed more than 120 miles over its estimated range

The second-generation debuted at the 2025 Munich Motor Show, and was given a WLPT range of up to 500 miles.

While that number is impressive enough to earn it the top spot when it comes to EV range, a recent test from BMW saw the iX3 go even further.

In the test, the BMW iX3 hit 626 miles on a single charge, and it still had 2 percent battery power, or about 12 miles of range, left.

Incredible stuff, right?

The test saw the BMW iX3 travel from Debrecen in Hungary to Munich, Germany, and the team did a few things to help boost the range.

For starters, they avoided highways, meaning the car was able to travel at lower speeds, which is a key way to stretch an EV’s range.

The team also kept the radio and climate control off to help preserve the battery.

And they opted for more aerodynamic and energy-efficient 20-inch M wheels, rather than 21-inch or 22-inch ones.

The EV is also super fast to charge up again

Although impressive, the test isn’t really representative of a real road trip.

Most folks who buy the new BMW iX3 probably aren’t going to stick to super low speeds and drive around without climate control or music on.

However, it does show that a car’s EV range can vary quite a bit depending on how you drive.

And, when the time comes to charge the iX3, its fast-charging capabilities mean its downtime will be pretty low.

The Neue Klase platform supports 400kW charging, which means the iX3 can add more than 230 miles of range in just 10 minutes, or go from 10 percent charge to 80 percent in 21 minutes.

Range anxiety? Never heard of it.
