A new Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet will soon replace the current version of Air Force One.

Air Force One is one of the most iconic aircraft in the world, and for several decades, it has been a Boeing 747 finished in white, gold, and blue.

But a new version, with a subtle redesign of the original color, is set to go into service soon, as the President says goodbye to the Boeing 747-200 that has been in use since 1987.

By 2028, two new 747s will have entered service and be transporting the President across America and around the world.

When will the new jet enter service?

Currently, the new jumbo jet that will be Air Force One is set to enter service in 2027.

This will be followed in 2028 by a second, identical version of the aircraft.

That will give the President two aircraft to utilize for transport.

Since 1987, every US President has flown in a 747-200, with it utilizing Air Force designation VC-25A.

The new version, however, offers some upgrades and improvements over the previous aircraft, as well as reduced carbon emissions.

While Boeing no longer produces 747s for commercial use, it still has the contract to do so for the US government and the President.

These two new 747s could be some of the last ever produced.

Subtle revisions have been made to the aircraft’s colors.

Boeing rejected President Trump’s redesign in 2019.

But it did accept a change from President Biden a few years later.

The new jets will sport a slightly darker shade of blue around the nose and engines.

Currently, Air Force One can fly 6,735 nautical miles without refueling.

This new version, though, will add another 1,000 nautical miles to that total range.

That means the aircraft could fly from Washington, DC, to Hong Kong on one tank of fuel.

Powering the aircraft will be four new General Electric GEnx-2B engines.

These are a step up from the previous CF6-80C2B1 engines.

The top speed of the older aircraft was Mach 0.84, with the new version set to be slightly quicker at Mach 0.855.

It will also be the longest commercial aircraft in the world, at 250ft, 2in long

Yet the Boeing 747-8 will produce 16 tons fewer carbon dioxide emissions.

That is very impressive and shows the advances made in engine technology since the 1980s.

All being well, both jumbo jet aircraft will be in service in three years.
