Every single gearhead has a dream car that they’d like to own in their lifetime, that they dream will be their forever car – and the Porsche GT 3RS was just that for this content creator.

Sadly, it wasn’t destined to be a long-term relationship.

The time had come to say goodbye to his dream car as he prepared to sell it on to a new owner.

There was one simple reason and a million factors that led to his decision that may open your eyes when it comes to buying and collecting autos.

It was time to say farewell to this forever car

YouTube creator Vin_tra was able to snap up the ultimate supercar – the Porsche 997.2 GT3 RS, which he called his forever car.

But, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and so too has his time with the Porsche after 37,000 miles.

In a sad turn of events, the creator explained that he was about to say his final goodbye to his Porsche – but it may be for a different reason than you’d initially expect.

“At some point, the conversation stopped being about driving and started being about values, comps, and auction results,” he explained.

As you can imagine, the Porsche GT 3RS was worth a huge sum, and as a result of this, even though he was a driver and not a collector, he was never quite comfortable with the value of the car.

“This car has left the realm of being something that I will enjoy driving and has moved into the realm of a collector car,” he explained.

The shift in the car sphere

The creator explained that there has been a big change in the car sphere, and for many, the whole point of collecting a car is to make a big profit, not create fun.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, prices have also gone up as more people became interested and took to social media to share projects.

Social media has also played a part, with news of high price points spreading fast.

In previous years, these were simply a myth, meaning views on prices are distorted, as well as online auctions not helping the situation either.

Selling a dream car – the bottom line

The big takeaway from the creator’s experience with his Porsche?

Cars just aren’t an investment, as you spend money maintaining the cars, whilst adding miles.

During his four years owning the GT3 RS, the creator revealed that he’d spent more than $50,000 due to the insurance being expensive, two major mechanical issues, and upgrading parts.

Although a bitter ending, the new owner backed up the creator’s feelings that cars are meant to be driven, and had plans to add many more miles on, and enjoy the car.

Now, the part you’ve been waiting for – why he really sold his forever car.

The answer is quite simple: he wants to reinvest in both his business and himself.

Hey, you can’t blame the gearhead for having common sense – and although he didn’t reveal the true selling price, we’re sure his end sum would allow him to do just that.
