Californian buys his dad's 66 Mustang back 40 years back after he sold it to make ends meet

The Ford Mustang is, without doubt, one of the most iconic American cars ever.

Ever since its inception in 1964, the Mustang has been a star of popular culture.

Although it’s not a pop culture story, the iconic muscle car has played another starring role.

Son seeks Mustang owned by father 40 years ago

As promised, today’s story sees the legendary muscle car bringing people together once more.

This time, it is the subject of a car-loving bond between father and son.

PJ McMillan is a YouTuber that runs a YouTube channel of the same name.

He recently uploaded a video that has completely captured the imagination.

PJ explains that, 40 years ago, his father owned a 1966 Ford Mustang.

This was right when PJ was born in Temecula, California – though they now live in Michigan.

He outlines the story of his father selling the Mustang in order to allow the family to move to Michigan.

PJ tells us that his family took a photo together with the old muscle car.

PJ then recreated the picture with his wife and child – which went viral.

So he decided to try and track down his father’s old Mustang.

PJ finds Mustang – and it’s 40 minutes away

After spending 18 months doing some digging, PJ finally found his father’s car.

And, lo and behold, it was less than 40 minutes from his house in Michigan.

After tracking it down, the gentleman who owned it promised first dibs to PJ when the time came to sell.

Sadly, the older gentleman passed, but his son made the same promise to PJ.

After finally going to inspect it, PJ was shocked to find that it was exactly the same as when his dad had it.

In fact, even the license registration is still the same as it was 40 years ago.

After giving the car a quick wash, PJ inspects under the hood of the Mustang.

And, true to form, it’s been maintained in excellent condition over the years.

Father reunited with beloved muscle car

After checking it over and ensuring that all is good, PJ brings the car into town.

He lines it up in the middle of the car meet to present to his dad.

When presented with the car, PJ’s dad, naturally, is absolutely overjoyed.

After sharing an embrace, his dad gets back into the driver’s seat over 40 years later.

PJ’s father then hits the road in his old (new) car alongside PJ’s mother.

PJ ends the video by showing the recreated picture side-by-side with the original.

It’s a truly wonderful story, and we are delighted that things have come full circle.
