Daniel Radcliffe bought the most unlikely car after receiving $27.5M Harry Potter paycheck as soon as he turned 18

When Daniel Radcliffe turned 18, he cashed in his reported $27.5m Harry Potter paycheck and bought a most unlikely car.

Most teenagers can only dream of having millions in the bank.

And let’s face it, given the opportunity, many would spend it on something flashy.

But for Daniel Radcliffe, that wasn’t quite the route he took.

When Daniel Radcliffe turned 18, he had $27.5 million to play with

When Radcliffe turned 18 back in July 2007, the trust fund tied to his role in the Harry Potter franchise officially became his.

As a teenager at the height of his fame, he could have very easily gone wild with the $27.5 million he’d reportedly earned.

He could have been trading in the Nimbus 2000 for a Rolls-Royce or a Ferrari.

But much like his post-Harry Potter acting roles, he opted for the unconventional choice.

He headed down to a Fiat dealership and purchased a Fiat Grande Punto.

It’s not exactly a car that screams big Hollywood star, is it?

This is why the Harry Potter star opted for a Fiat Grande Punto

At the time, Radcliffe justified his car choice by pointing towards environmental concerns.

“The Fiat Punto is a car I love. Plus, it’s one of the five least polluting cars,” he explained at the time, caradisiac reported.

“It’s small, maneuverable, and attractive. I prefer these kinds of low-emission vehicles to flashy ones.

“I don’t think I’m extravagant. I like buying little things like books, CDs, and DVDs.”

Radcliffe certainly wouldn’t need to empty out his vault at Gringotts for this purchase either, as it was a modest $5,000.

It also helps that this isn’t a car that would draw too much attention to him, helping him live a pretty low-key life.

The rest of his car collection is a lot fancier

As the years went by, it appears that Radcliffe’s taste started to get a lot pricier, with Lamborghinis, BMWs, and Range Rovers all reportedly in his garage.

He’d have that in common with Tom Felton, the actor who played his school nemesis.

It would set him apart from his Hogwarts buddy Rupert Grint, whose idea of a ‘dream vehicle’ was most definitely unconventional.

And then there’s poor old Dumbledore.

His first actor, Richard Harris, splashed out on a Rolls-Royce and then forgot where he parked it for over 20 years.

If only ‘Accio Rolls-Royce Phantom’ could work in the real world.
