  • The nose of the Dodge Charger has often been compared to a Ram pickup
  • So a Rhode Island shop did the natural thing and converted a Charger into a pickup truck
  • It’s a remarkably odd idea at first glance, but it also makes sense

The nose of the Dodge Charger has often been likened to a Ram pickup – so this Rhode Island car shop turned it into just that.

Smyth Kit Cars took an old Charger and turned it into a pickup truck.

It’s one of several body kits made from Chargers that they’ve featured on their website.

To get one for yourself would cost you just short of $5,000, which is a pretty good deal in our book.

The unconventional Dodge Charger to Ram pickup conversion

On the face of it, this kit may seem a little random.

Not that we haven’t seen quirky modifications before – anyone remember the Cybertruck with the googly eyes?

But really, it makes sense.

As far as cars go, Chargers aren’t exactly what you would call a ‘show car‘, thanks to their bulky appearance.

And with regards to pickups, they’re handy to have around, but can be a bit unwieldly to drive.

So if you put them both together, there’s got to be some sort of fusion, right?

Smyth Kit Cars previously made a Volkswagen Jetta pickup conversion kit, so they have form for bold endeavours.

On their website, the company’s founder Mark Smith wrote: “Yes we changed the small truck landscape with our little Jetta pickup.

“It was only a matter of time before [we] turned his attention to the big V8 Ute. Smyth Utes work best with really sturdy 4 door sedans.  In the case of big V8 sedans there just are not that many left to choose from.

“Lucky for all of us that the 2005 to 2020 Dodge Charger was made as one of the only 4 door muscle cars in the world. Bingo, American V8 car-truck fans your day is here.”

The making of a new type of truck

Smith detailed the different elements that went into creating the Ram inspired kit.

New additions included rear glass from a GM Colorado truck, 20″ hellcat replica wheels and a fiberglass SRT hood.

The added bed is plenty spacious – six foot long, with top rails measuring 48.5″ wide up front and 60″ down at the back.

And if you were looking to have a themed ride, then you’d be in luck.

Smyth Kit Cars also do police themed builds and hellcat inspired kits.

As Smith himself wrote: “This Ute [Utility vehicle] does double duty as a great daily or a cars and coffee show hit.”

We all love a good old fashioned modification success story.

Just recently we told you about a Toyota FJ45 Land Cruiser pickup that had been fitted with a NASCAR engine – as if pickups needed to be anymore American.

But that was nothing compared to the Americanization that this Rolls-Royce underwent, as it was transformed into a pickup.

At this rate, it feels like any vehicle can be get this sort of treatment.

And really, is that such a bad thing?
