This drone footage shows an abandoned Arizona racetrack 30 miles out from paved roads – to say that this has been lost to the sands of time would be an understatement.
YouTube channel DZAdventures paid a visit to the deserted spot to take a closer look.
On the ground, it doesn’t look like much – fences and ‘No Trespassing’ signs adorn the site.
But from above, with a drone, the whole race track opens up before your eyes.

What was the backstory behind this abandoned Arizona racetrack?
This racetrack was called Competition Ridge, and it was built back in 2010, The Drive reported.
According to a 2010 DragZine blog post, the track was the brainchild of sports car racer Randy Lyles.

Located between the cities of Kingman and Lake Havasu in the Grand Canyon State, the spot included a 1/4 mile dragstrip, a 3/4 mile paved oval, and a 1.7 mile road course.
The hope was that the land surrounding the track would be bought up, so that houses and race shops could be built.
Lyles posted an asking price of $70,900 per plot, but for whatever reason, the plan never blossomed, and the track was left abandoned.

And that’s exactly how the YouTube channel DZAdventures found it.
Considering it was deserted, it wasn’t looking too bad – especially when viewed from above.
The condition of this abandoned racetrack
On the ground, it just looked like a barren desert landscape, with not much going on.
But once DZAdventures took their drone up into the sky, they got a crystal clear view of the track in all its glory.

Unfortunately, it was an unfulfilled glory, as this track isn’t being used for its intended purpose.
And with it being so far from civilization, it’s not exactly in a prime spot for developers to swoop in and work on, so the track will most likely remain as it is, and provide further interest for any Google Map scrollers.
It’s always fascinating to see abandoned sites – remember this deserted F1 Grand Prix track in France?

And that’s not forgetting the cars that end up being left behind.
There was the one guy who found a Ferrari F1 car on a derelict farm, and we weren’t jealous at all,
Or how about the three iconic supercars that were discovered in an abandoned dealership in China?
It’s fascinating to see what’s out there – and mind-boggling to contemplate how much remains to be discovered.
