There’s no shortage of wholesome videos on the internet, but this grandpa’s response to seeing his beloved pickup truck restored is sure to make your day.
Just for context, the pickup is a 1954 International that was purchased by its elderly owner and his mother for a mere $50.
You can probably tell from the price that it wasn’t purchased recently; if fact, it had been parked up for nearly 45 years.
But the owner’s grandson thought he’d do a good deed by enlisting the services of a local mechanic to restore the truck so it could be enjoyed once again.

The pickup truck surprise
Blake Kincheloe decided to journal the occasion in a video posted to his YouTube channel.
The video starts with Kincheloe and his father collecting the pickup truck from C&J’s Classic & Muscle Cars, who got it running again, while also fitting a new front bumper and installing new electrics.
Must to their surprise, the truck fired up the first time without issue, so the pair made their way home to vacuum the cab, before making their journey onwards to surprise Grandpa.
Standing outside in the front yard of his house, a lady asks the elderly man what it is coming down the road.
“H*ll I’ll be damned,” the grandpa exclaimed, after recognizing his beloved pickup truck rolling down the street toward the house.
Having not seen or driven the truck for more than four decades, it’s clear just how shocked the man is that it’s running again.
Standing with his arms folded and an emotional look on his face, the grandpa made his way over to the truck to take a closer look.
“I didn’t think I’d ever live to see that,” he commented as his son turned on the engine.
Aside from Grandpa’s reaction, perhaps one of the sweetest moments of the video is when he admits to not noticing it’d been missing from outside his son’s house for several months.
After bringing him up to speed with what work had to be carried out to get it going again, it was Grandpa’s turn to take it for a spin.
“Feel that power?” Grandpa asked his grandson, who was sitting in the passenger seat.
It’s not clear from the video as to which model International pickup truck it is, but a quick scour online suggests that even the most powerful engine at the time only produced 104 horsepower.
Nevertheless, it was given a new lease on life, leaving an old man incredibly happy and his grandson with a memory that’ll last a lifetime.
Other emotional car stories
There’s just something about reaction videos that brings a tear to our eyes, like the son who reacted to his dad’s old Studebaker being restored.
Then there was that video of a dad who was surprised on his 99th birthday with a restored 1955 Ford he thought would never run again.
What’s more, this man managed to track down his granddad’s lost Lamborghini Countach and got emotional just recounting the story.
