A Reddit thread has followed a young man’s story as he watched his family slowly swap gas-powered cars for battery power, one car and conversation at a time.

What began as cautious talk around the dinner table has turned into a full EV lineup.

It didn’t happen overnight, but once the first decision was made everything else followed fast.

So what finally convinced them to switch?

Why they finally ditched gas-powered cars for EVs

It started with his dad’s old 2005 Honda CR-V – reliable, loud, and way overdue for retirement.

He spent months researching hybrids, then plug-ins, bouncing between options and fears about charging times and battery life.

His wife, a counselor by trade, eventually told him what he already knew: he was overthinking it.

That night he walked into the living room, grabbed his son by the shoulders, and said, “F*** it. EV.”

The next day he brought home a 2025 Kia Niro EV, trading two decades of combustion for quiet torque.

Less than a week later, his 22-year-old son bought a 2024 Kia EV6 AWD, saying it was his way of confronting long-standing driving anxiety.

Together they installed a ChargePoint Level 2 charger in the garage, splitting the cost and ditching gas stations for good.

They even discovered public chargers nearby, turning refueling into something casual, not stressful.

Life after going fully electric

Now they both describe fully electric driving as quieter, calmer, and strangely freeing.

The son calls it ‘slaying a long-festering demon,’ while his dad just loves never paying for oil again.

Mom – instrumental in nudging them both – is planning to buy a used Tesla before year’s end, meaning soon the whole household will be electric.

Commenters called the story ‘adorable,’ but it’s more than that.

It’s a snapshot of how the EV revolution actually happens.

Not through hype or policy, but driveway by driveway, until the rest of the world just catches up.
