One son received an amazing picture of a Porsche from his father, which made his jaw hit the floor thanks to one stunning detail on the German sports car.
The Porsche was spotted in Munich while the father was away travelling, and he chanced upon the Porsche parked on the street.
With his son being a huge fan of air-cooled Porsches like this one, he knew he’d love a photograph of the car.
While he probably didn’t expect to leave his son so gob-smacked, we imagine he was pretty happy about the reaction.

This is what made this Porsche 911 so jaw-dropping
The car in question was a 1975-1989 Porsche 911 Turbo (930) sports car.
It earned the nickname ‘Widowmaker’ due to its performance and how tricky it was to handle.
The father knew it as an air-cooled 911, and a sports car that his son would love.
But his son noticed one particular detail that made this truly stand out.
Under the hood was a 1.5-liter twin-turbocharged engine.
This wasn’t any engine, however, but a genuine Formula 1 powertrain.
The engine came from the partnership that Porsche had with McLaren via TAG in the 1980s.

Porsche-TAG produced engines for the British F1 team, and in the F1 cars, they could chuck out 1,000hp.
Unsurprisingly, it was detuned slightly to better suit a road car.
The engine of the car was given away by the giant radiators in the rear.

How the son knew this sports car had a Formula 1 engine
In the photo, the son didn’t get a chance to see the engine under the hood.
However, one detail on the outside gave it away.
Down the side of the car, at the bottom of the door, was a black stripe and yellow lettering.
The lettering read ‘TAG turbo,’ a firm indicator of what was under the hood.
These period-accurate graphics were what revealed it was a very special car.
The bright yellow paintwork was the icing on the cake.
McLaren won multiple world championships with the TAG-Porsche engines.
My dad is in Munich and knows I love air-cooled Porsches so he sent me a picture of one he saw walking around. Something looked odd about it so I zoomed in to take a closer look, after which my jaw made contact with the ground.

The team took three drivers’ championships in 1984, 1985, and 1986.
They also won two constructors’ titles in 1984 and 1985.
More than just a sports car, this Porsche also represents a significant period for the company and McLaren in Formula 1.
