Fans of Ford, the Mustang and the V8 engine everywhere will be delighted.
And that is because the Blue Oval marque has confirmed the V8 is here to stay.
Ford’s famous powerplant will continue to power the Mustang at least until 2029.
But a hybrid variant of the Mustang is also lurking on the horizon.

Ford confirms that the V8 remains alive and kicking
The Ford Mustang remains the only V8-powered muscle car in the market today.
Chevrolet killed off its legendary Camaro nameplate back in 2023.
In a similar vein, Dodge retired both the Challenger and the Charger.
These were then replaced by a Charger Daytona with an electric powertrain – which hasn’t gone too well for the brand.
But it appears that Ford is determined not to make the same mistake as its American rivals.
According to reports, Ford is standing firmly behind its staple, legendary models.
These reportedly include the F-Series of trucks, as well as the Bronco and the Mustang models.

The Blue Oval brand has already pressed the stop button on further electrification.
Plans for a three-row electric SUV have already been scrapped by the company.
But Ford’s famous V8 powerplant will continue to power the Mustang – at least for the next few years.
Brand CEO Jim Farley was asked about the famous model’s future back in May 2024.
“We will never make an all-electric Mustang. […] I just don’t think that would be right for Mustang. Great for other Fords – look at the worldwide success of Transit – but not for Mustang.”
Hybrid Mustang on the horizon for 2029?
That being said, Ford is very much still keeping one eye on the future.
A refresh of the Mustang range is expected to be introduced sometime around late-2026, and a hybrid Mustang looks to be on the horizon.

This means that an entirely new generation of the car isn’t expected until 2029.
It appears that Ford remains firm on introducing a hybrid option for the Mustang range by 2030.
As you’ve probably worked out, this timeline would align perfectly with a new generation of Mustang offering.
