A long-lost Ford Probe IV concept car has recently resurfaced on Facebook Marketplace, and it’s one of only two ever made, with the other on display in a museum.
The wedge-shaped vehicle was first introduced in 1979 with the Probe I.
In the years that followed, a handful of other concept cars were released under the Probe name, including the Probe IV in 1983.
Believe it or not, one of these ultra-rare concepts has just turned up for sale on Facebook Marketplace, and it’s expected to fetch a pretty decent sale price.

The 1983 Probe IV is an incredibly rare find
The Ghia-built Probe was designed to cut through the air, thanks to its unique wedge-shape and a handful of other aerodynamic features.
Over the course of around six years, Ford continued to tinker with the design, with the 1983 Probe IV featuring a more radical design than its predecessors.

And the redesign paid off, with Ford claiming that the Probe IV achieved an impressive 0.15 drag coefficient during testing.
Only two Probe IVs were ever built – one is on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum, and the other is currently up for sale on Facebook Marketplace.
Facebook Marketplace is filled with unusual and rare finds, like a Mazda MX-5 that has been turned into a replica of 1950s Jaguar D-Type, or this Porsche 911 Turbo S that was listed for $2.4 million – yes, you did read that correctly.

But even by those standards, the ‘exceptionally rare and historically significant’ 1983 Probe IV is an incredible find.
The car has been listed for sale in Spring, Texas, with the seller revealing it is Chassis 001 and was the wind tunnel and development prototype.
“Long believed lost, this one-of-a-kind display vehicle has now resurfaced and is available for acquisition,” the listing explains.
The only other model sold for a small fortune back in 2022
The concept was built without a drivetrain or steering, and remains that way today, meaning you won’t be able to take it out for a spin.
The seller also notes a few other issues, including a faulty front left wheel cover, missing mirrors, and non-functioning rear doors.
But let’s face it, how often do you get a chance to own a piece of automotive history like this?

The seller has listed the concept car with a placeholder price and says they are ‘accepting offers’, but that if it fails to sell, it’ll be headed to auction.
It’s unclear how much the car could go for, but its sister vehicle – Chassis 002 – was snapped up for a reported $125,000 in 2022.
