Ford and Renault have announced a new joint project, which will see two new affordable EVs being built on Renault’s Ampere platform.
The landmark partnership will help expand Ford’s EV offerings in the European market.
It will see the two automotive powerhouses working side by side on both commercial and passenger vehicles.
And it will kick off with two new Ford-badged electric cars, the first of which will arrive in 2028.

Ford and Renault will be developing two affordable EVs
Ford CEO Jim Farley has been fairly vocal about electric cars and the company’s EV strategy.
And he’s been equally vocal about Chinese EV makers, calling them ‘far superior’ and warning that brands like BYD and Xiaomi are ‘completely dominating’ the market.

So much so, he even warned that Ford will ‘not have a future’ unless it can compete with Chinese EV manufacturers.
Now, the Blue Oval is looking to boost its EV offering in Europe and has joined forces with Renault to make it happen.
As yet, details around the upcoming electric cars are scarce, but we do know they’ll run on Renault’s Ampere platform and will be made at the carmaker’s facility in the north of France, but will be designed by Ford.
A statement from Ford also revealed that the two new cars will be ‘affordable’, although no pricing has been shared just yet.
However, there might be too long a wait until we find out, with Ford announcing that the first of the two new cars will be landing in showrooms in the early part of 2028.
“The strategic partnership with Renault Group marks an important step for Ford and supports our strategy to build a highly efficient and fit-for-the future business in Europe,” Farley said.
“We will combine Renault Group’s industrial scale and EV assets with Ford’s iconic design and driving dynamics to create vehicles that are fun, capable, and distinctly Ford in spirit.”

The new partnership comes as Ford appears to be making a concerted effort to launch more affordable EVs.
Back in August, Farley said the company was working away on an lower-priced all-electric pickup, slated to go into production in 2027.

“Our first body style will be a pickup, but it’s really not a pickup,” the Ford CEO said.
“It is very fast, it’s rear-wheel drive, it’s super fun to drive, and it has a digital experience that no one’s seen – at least that we’ve seen – even in China.”
The new pickup-that’s-not-really-a-pickup will be built on Ford’s new Universal EV platform.
