Ford is one of the world’s most historic and iconic car brands – but you might never have heard of the Ford GT90.
As well as being a production car behemoth, For has also occasionally dabbled in supercar production.
You might not remember, but the Blue Oval once produced a now-forgotten 200mph supercar.
And it is a car that could have completely revolutionized the automotive world.

Back in 1995, Ford unveiled a fully functioning concept supercar.
This concept car was targeted as a spiritual successor to the legendary GT40.
Fans at the Detroit Auto Show were both blown away and amazed at what they saw.
The car in question is none other than the striking Ford GT90.
In case you’ve never seen the GT90, then get ready for some incredible numbers.
For one thing, this concept supercar was truly one-of-a-kind in terms of design.
It was the first car designed in line with Ford’s ‘New Edge’ design philosophy.

This translated to a car unlike anything Ford had ever created before (or since).
The body came as an aluminium monocoque, whilst the body panels were made of carbon fiber.
And the beating heart of this beast was a different animal altogether.
For one thing, it was Ford’s first brand-new V12 design since the Lincoln-Zephyr V12 from 1948.
The final product was a 5.9 liter mammoth, and it came with four turbochargers.
Oh, and it produced an absolutely whopping 720bhp.
For context – the only other quad-turbocharged car of that era was the Bugatti EB 110.
A massive part of the appeal of the GT90 was, of course, its performance.
With a 0-60 time of 3.1 seconds, as well as a top speed of 253mph, you can quickly see why.

Even by today’s standards, those numbers are extraordinarily impressive.
When journalists tested the car, Ford intentionally jammed the wastegates to reduce engine power.
They did this for an extraordinary reason – they weren’t sure if the chassis could take the power.
Sadly, the supercar never went into production – slowly being relegated to history.
The Ford GT90 remains one of the true ‘what if?’ questions of the car industry.
