The Genesis Magma GT concept has just been revealed.

And it points to a fascinating mid-engine hybrid future.

But this new offering clearly has a certain class of rival in its sights.

And this new concept appears to be challenging Ferrari and Corvette.

Genesis Magma GT concept is here

Ladies and gentlemen, we have another fascinating concept car release.

This time, it comes to us from Genesis.

As you know, Genesis is the luxury division of South Korean giants Hyundai.

But this concept supercar could not be any more different.

Instead, this concept car is from Magma – the sub-division of Genesis itself.

Magma is a name that has been making waves in the performance world.

The luxury sub-brand has already revealed a Le Mans-bound prototype racing program.

And this release is the latest in Magma’s performance offerings.

The halo car in question is the Genesis Magma GT Concept.

And a few things are made immediately clear.

It’s a mid-engine sports car that combines lightweight design with classic proportions.

Further details on performance and powertrains are quite scarce at the moment.

But it’s clear that the new concept car is being positioned as the Magma brand’s flagship.

Some have even speculated that it could serve as the Genesis equivalent of the Lexus LFA.

However, based on the design, it’s pretty clear what the Genesis Magma GT Concept actually aims to target.

And that market includes everything from the Corvette to the entire Ferrari range.

Of course, this is only a concept car – for now.

Dream of Magma sub-brand supercar appears real

But Genesis has also teased several other possible offerings.

Last year, the South Korean brand revealed the X Gran Berlinetta.

That car was recently seen doing demonstration laps with a potential V8 engine.

In terms of the Magma GT Concept itself, Genesis appears determined to actually deliver on production of the concept car.

Genesis says that it has an ‘intention to develop the Magma GT Concept into a performance icon, or halo car.’

What makes this even more interesting is another ambition that Genesis has.

The brand has previously spoken about its ambition to compete in global GT racing competitions.

All popular GT categories require cars with ICE-powered engines.

This makes it likely that the Genesis Magma GT Concept would come with some sort of ICE-powered engine in the future.

Hyundai appears committed to building a halo car for its Genesis sub-brand.

As long as that remains the goal, then the dream of a production Magma GT should still be realistic.
