The war between Android and iPhone has just got one step closer to a ceasefire, and it’s all thanks to an AI-powered handshake, as Google and Apple have entered a major multi-year deal for Gemini AI to power Siri.

Siri will go down in tech folklore as the revolutionary AI assistant that sparked Alexa, ChatGPT, and much of the AI we have now.

But with Apple Intelligence seemingly hitting a brick wall in its development, the tech giants have turned to Google for a helping hand.

And a helping artificial brain.

Google Gemini AI will merge with Siri in new Apple deal

Siri, as we know it, is getting a huge upgrade as the long-awaited and highly lucrative deal between Apple and Google will bring Gemini AI in to bolster the intelligence of the iPhone stalwart.

The deal has been in the works for around two years, and, despite Apple rolling out new ChatGPT integrations mid-way through 2025, Gemini will now become the main AI brain behind the iPhone.

While details on the financial aspect of this deal have yet to be revealed, reports in November claimed that it could be worth $1 billion a year.

“After careful evaluation, Apple determined Google’s AI technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models,” Google said on X (formerly Twitter).

“Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute, while maintaining Apple’s industry-leading privacy standards.”

What this means for iPhone users

Google Gemini is already a very advanced AI bot, being adept enough to perform oil changes in expensive sports cars and being a backseat driver in vehicles like the new Escalade IQ.

The next wave of Siri-powered products has been on hold for some time, but this new deal may spark those back into life.

Features such as Notification Summaries, Writing Tools, Image Playground, Genmoji, and more are all set to benefit from a Siri standpoint.

But equally, the Google Gemini AI app will be a main hub for information, as it will power the Siri button.

The deal will see integration commence promptly, although a date has not been announced for when Gemini AI will roll out in full.
