One Jamaican man has gone viral for outsmarting thieves using a simple Bluetooth hack to recover his stolen Toyota Aqua Hybrid.
This plucky modern-day Sherlock Holmes didn’t let a little car robbery ruin his week.
Instead, after having his 2016 Toyota stolen, he whipped out his notebook and entered investigation mode.
Thanks to a neat Bluetooth hack, the amateur sleuth has tracked the Toyota down.

The phrase ‘thick as thieves’ is quite on the nose, but in some cases of car theft, it rings true – the recent Lambo snatchers proved this hypothesis.
Unfortunately, supercars – and cars in general – are hot property for criminals.
Just as this Jamaican man found out.
As reported by The Gleaner – a local Jamaican paper – one owner of a Toyota Aqua Hybrid found themselves in the worst-case scenario, as their car had been stolen overnight.
The man reported the incident to the police, revealing that he had video footage of the thievery, where they broke the window of the locked car before getting it started and driving off.
However, he didn’t just leave the detective work to the officers and took matters into his own hands.
In this case, the vehicle’s engine and chassis numbers were swapped, and the local police have urged more dealers to check their cars to prevent further sales of stolen vehicles.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Glendale Murdock said, “Local car dealers should ensure the vehicle they are selling on behalf of a third party belongs to those individuals.
“The necessary checks and balances are to be done as well,”
The man reportedly found a car resembling his 2016 stolen Toyota Aqua Hybrid on an online car sales page, although he couldn’t be 100% sure.
Here, he arranged to go and view the car. It should be said that this isn’t an example that should be followed, knowing that these thieves could be dangerous.
Still, the man noticed a stain on the seats that matched the one he had and went to visit the car.
Despite new plates, the car was definitely his, and confirmation came thanks to a neat Bluetooth hack.
Once in the vicinity of the car, its Bluetooth setting paired with his phone, which only happens to previously connected devices, confirming his suspicions.
Thankfully, the police were nearby, and as he rang the forces, they turned up almost immediately to arrest the thieves.
