Despite having chosen the city as the backdrop to his wedding, Jeff Bezos won’t be able to get too close to Venice, Italy, in his superyacht, Koru.
The yacht is simply too large to anchor near the Italian lagoon, which means Bezos is going to have to find an alternative solution.
Not only that, but Koru’s shadow yacht is also too big for Venice.
It’s gondolas or nothing, then.

Why Koru is too large for Venice
Jeff Bezos is about to give the people of Venice a collective headache – also a lot of money – for what must be the most talked about wedding of the decade.
The mayor of Venice has said the wedding will cause minimal disruption to residents and tourists.
But it’s hard to see how that’s possible. Bezos is throwing huge sums of money at this event, bringing his superyacht, and has staff the size of a small army.

The good news is the rumor stating that Bezos reportedly booked every hotel room, water taxi and gondola in the city for three days was, well, just a rumor.
The mayor of Venice himself said that’s not true.
But what is true is that Koru, Jeff Bezos’ enormous superyacht, will be used as the venue for the wedding.
And if Koru is there, then it means Abeona, below, Koru’s shadow yacht, will also be there.

Unfortunately for Bezos, his colossal 127-meter (417ft) superyacht won’t be able to get anywhere near the canals of Venice. It’s just too big.
So Bezos will probably have to anchor the ship a few miles away, then use Abeona to get nearer. And then probably switch to even smaller boats.
That’s because Abeona, which is 75 meters long, is also too big to get too close to the city.
The reason why Jeff Bezos won’t be able to reach Venice aboard Koru
Water is what made Venice what it is, but it is also a constant worry for residents.
Every year, like clockwork, Venice streets flood and the city uses gangways to help tourists and residents keep their feet dry.

In 2020, the city activated MOSE – pictured above – a massive dam-like gate system designed to seal off the city to protect it from high tides
It works to an extent, but it hasn’t fixed the problem as Venice is still sinking.
That’s why the city is now charging an entry fee in an effort to reduce overcrowding and preserve the city.
Which leaves one question: Will Bezos still be charged the fee if he can’t get close?
