This Kansas YouTuber bought a school bus on Facebook Marketplace and turbocharged it to turn it into the world’s fastest.

Westen Champlin had picked up the school bus for around $1,800, intending to get it turbocharged for LS Fest in Kentucky.

With 219,000 miles on the clock and a slipping transmission, this bus didn’t exactly scream speed demon.

But by video’s end, this school bus would be a totally different creature.

Westen Champlin is no stranger to an ambitious project.

After all, this is the man who drove a mini-truck with a shed on the back of it through Alaska.

He also put blades on his Corvette, then took it out onto a frozen lake.

He’s certainly down for taking risks, as he demonstrated when he took a backwards truck on a road trip to Texas – unsurprisingly, he was pulled over in two minutes.

This time around, a school bus was the focus of his creative energies.

Purchased from Facebook Marketplace for $1,800, it was in solid condition and ripe for a makeover.

Well, if you call turbocharging it to make it the world’s fastest a makeover, then sure.

Champlin and his team took a closer look at the bus: it had a 6L engine and ran decently enough.

However, it’d clearly been on the roads for a while, with 219,000 miles on the clock and a slipping transmission.

The first order of business was to remove the interior seats, fix the air conditioning, and prepare the bus for the turbo system.

They sourced a GT45 turbo from his old white Ford Ranger project and mounted it onto the school bus using leftover parts.

After addressing some fuel leaks, they hit the road for Kentucky, where the bus would be appearing at LS Fest.

Would they run into any problems on the way to Kentucky?

The bus ran smoothly, stopping over in St Louis for a tune-up.

Arriving at Bowling Green, Kentucky, in the early hours of the morning, Champlin and his team set up the bus for an impromptu meet-and-greet.

Some pals of his even got to check out the interior of the bus, which had been decked out with a recliner, sofas, and a mini fridge.

Certainly makes a difference from the school buses we went on as kids.

This isn’t the first time that a school bus has been given a total makeover, though.

One young couple converted theirs into a permanent home that they used to travel the country.

Then there was the guy who turned one into a convertible.

Who knew that these big yellow buses could be so multi-dimensional?
