Owning a supercar is a statement. It’s a flex. It’s everything gearheads dream of and more. But what real supercar buyers look like is not quite what you’d expect, according to a famed Lamborghini salesman.
We’ve all seen the movies where a buyer walks into the garage and is disrespected by the higher-ups, only for the new starter salesman to get the hefty commission from a rare supercar purchase.
But not every person who walks into a Lamborghini dealership is actually thinking about buying the supercars.
One experienced Lamborghini salesman and fabled supercar enthusiast has now revealed what your standard buyer looks like, and it’s quite a contrast from what you might believe.

Ed Bolian claims most Lamborghini buyers are broke
Ed Bolian is now one of the most decorated supercar collectors out there, with vehicles like the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport in his ownership.
But before he became a YouTube sensation and a wealthy supercar collector, he was selling Lambos in his home State of Georgia.
In an interview on The Iced Coffee Hour Clips, he revealed that his time selling high-end cars was quite an eye-opener, and the perception of wealthy owners is, shall we say, a little off.

Thanks to modern purchasing options, many supercar buyers are young people financing the motors that they really struggle to afford, according to the former Lamborghini salesman.
“I would say 75 percent are financed,” he said.
“Not because it’s the smart move. Not because the interest rate is low or they’re arbitrage money. It’s because they cannot afford it.
“If you see someone driving a supercar that’s less than five years old, you should not assume that person has a lot of money… If they’ve got a brand-new Huracán, that is not a reliable signal of wealth.”
Instead, the only way to identify wealth through cars is if you see vintage supercars, as they rarely get financed.
So, how does he pick out those who are really trying to buy one?

Well, Bolian claimed that there are some easy ways to figure out genuine buyers and those playing the game for the short term.
And it’s all about identifying the facade.
“People come in with their fake watches and overly designer clothes trying to pretend that they can buy something and they can’t,” Bolian said.
“They’re just trying to get a test drive or something like that… You can’t let those people waste your time when you actually have a job to do.”

Still, there’s obviously a huge appetite for the brand, and even if people are using their vehicles to skew the perception of wealth, it’s quite a compliment to Lamborghini that their supercars are chosen.
