Leaked documents have exposed a small but impactful shift in EV design.

The findings could shake up the whole market and it’s all to do with the main part of an EV – the battery.

Two car giants have put their brains together and drawn up the idea.

But has it been toyed with by others before?

Electric vehicles of the future

EVs are slowly taking over the classic and once popular gas-powered cars.

Thanks to the shift to the battery-powered cars, many brands have been prompted to up their game.

Renault has even relaunched the 5 Turbo, making ‘dreams come true’.

In fact, the Jaguar Type 00 Concept was spotted on the streets of Paris and it still looked like it’s AI-generated.

This new information that’s come to light may just change the electric vehicle sphere for good though.

Leaked documents have revealed a shift in design

Thanks to secret documents that have been leaked, it looks like there’s a new player in town who’s here to stay.

Two giants – Hyundai and Kia – are racking their mechanical brains to work out a new kind of battery design initative to power electric cars.

The thinking is that by using the space more logically, battery capacity can be upped. And that in turn could potentially improve the range.

So, longer drives with less of a need to top up the battery could be coming our way – exciting right?

What exactly is the shift in EV design?

Well, the battery would be combined within the overall structure of the car, instead of being separate like the current standard practice.

In fact, the structural battery packs could even be placed under the floor.

In the design created by the car giants, side rails have been extended to the openings of the back wheels – with the battery cells to be installed ‘down low and in the middle’.

Have other EV brands thought of this before?

They have indeed – and you won’t be surprised which brand it is.

Tesla has toyed with the concept and even outlined its own ideas at a 2020 Battery Day.

The Tesla battery would have meant a mere 14% improvement in range and reduced the weight by 10%.

Ultimately, this new design could mean that the performance of electric vehicles could in fact be better and even reduce how much the they weigh.

We guess time will tell – so keep an eye on upcoming launches – we certainly will be.
