A man is looking to cross the Atlantic using just a 3-foot boat that is smaller than an airline seat.
Adventurer Andrew Bedwell has built an incredibly small boat that he aims to take across the challenging Atlantic Ocean for a fraction of what others pay for the same journey.
While he is trying to make himself as comfortable as possible, the reality is that his tiny barge is not what you expect to cross an ocean in.
But that hasn’t deterred Bedwell from hoping to make the trip of a lifetime.

The 3-foot boat he will cross the Atlantic in
When we say his boat is small, we mean really small.
In total, it is just 100cm long, or three feet, so it really is as small as you can get.
It is classed as a micoryacht, and it costs a fraction of what luxury superyachts would cost to build.
Billed as the world’s smallest boat, there are no amenities at all, and barely any room to sleep in.
But there is just enough, and inside there is a footwell and sealed compartments for luggage.

There is also a domed cover to keep Bedwell dry when attempting to sleep in the 3-foot boat.
The journey he is attempting will take him 1,900 miles from St John’s in Newfoundland, Canada, to the western point of Ireland.
Bedwell is documenting the build and his journey on his Instagram page.

The boat uses solar panels for a small carbon footprint.
There is some clever technology in this small boat.
For example, the boat, called Big C V2, has solar panels that are used to power the electronics systems for navigation.
In total, the boat can carry a load of around 550kg, roughly 1,212lbs.
Two Victron batteries provide the power, which also includes a handheld chartplotter and phone navigation.
Other features inclide a central furling system and two outriggers.
Bedwell says that the boat’s ocean capsule also acts as his survival capsule.
He believes that it is incredibly solid and can easily withstand the tough Atlantic Ocean.
At only three feet long, it is so far removed from a typical luxury yacht.
But if he can cross the Atlantic, Bedwell will have pulled off an amazing achievement.
