A Chicago man who bought a used 2022 Tesla Model 3 was delighted with his purchase until he attempted to use a Supercharger.
The used EV market has seen a whopping 59 percent surge in sales in just one year.
Customers can often snap up a bargain as EV prices tend to drop more drastically than their gas-powered counterparts.
However, the buyer of a Tesla Model 3 has served as an important reminder to do your homework before making a purchase.

Man who bought used Tesla Model 3 discovered nasty surprise
Daniel Boycott, from Chicago, bought a used Tesla Model 3 from a dealership last month.
He was initially over the moon with his purchase, but was hit with a nasty surprise when he headed to a Tesla Supercharger to top up his battery.

When he tried to plug his car in, he found that it wouldn’t work.
In desperation, he tried several different chargers but none of them worked.
Stumped by the incident at the Supercharger, Boycott called Tesla to find out what was going on where he was informed via email that the Model 3 was ‘unsupported for Supercharging’ and that its warranties were also voided due to it being a ‘salvaged’ vehicle.
However, the car being deemed a salvaged EV was news to Boycott.
“I was told it was clean. The CARFAX said it was clean, and I trusted that,” he told CBS.
But a deeper dive into the report revealed that the car had been involved in an accident.
Although classed as ‘minor’, Boycott told the news outlet that the photos told a different story.
Alongside that, a Tesla technician told him the repair work carried out wasn’t up to scratch.
Ouch.

Tesla has stressed that connecting a damaged EV to its powerful Supercharger network presents a safety issue.
He’s issued a warning to people thinking of buying a used EV
Boycott told CBS that access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger was one of the key reasons he opted for the EV.
As a solution to the problem, Tesla does offer an inspection for drivers hoping to regain access to the network, but it’s not free.
Boycott is now urging others to make sure they do their research before buying used.
“I would just take a deeper look into what you’re buying, especially with EVs,” he said.
“People should trust what they’re being sold.”
