- He hated the look of the car and how it drove

This man drove a Humvee from California to Kansas, but hated the car, so he sought redemption by supercharging it.
Westen Champlin described the 100HP Humvee as ‘awful’ all around.
It was ‘awful to drive, awful to sit in, and awful to look at’.
But could the Hummer redeem itself if it were boosted to 1500HP?

Driving a Humvee from California to Kansas – but hating it all the way
There are some cars that people just hate driving.
The reasons why can vary from driver to driver, but some cars are just stinkers.
You may recall this Toyota Yaris monstrosity, or even the car intentionally designed to be the ‘world’s ugliest‘.

But in terms of pure ineptitude, its hard to beat the Yugo GV.
For Westen Champlin, the Humvee was a nightmare to drive.
But he did it, all the way from California to Kansas.
After a terrible experience, he decided it needed to be souped up.
The plan was to switch out the original engine for a supercharged LSA motor.
“The question is, will it be better if it has more power?” he asked his viewers.
The motor came from a wrecked Cadillac CTS-V, but getting it into the Humvee wouldn’t be an easy process.

For a start, space limitations leave it in doubt whether or not the supercharger will fit on top of the engine.
Would it squeeze in or would this project be over before it barely began?
Supercharging its way towards redemption
Whilst Westen was off filming a series in Alaska, his team came up with a solution.
A body lift solved the space issue, and the radiator installation went smoothly afterwards.
Even some fiddling around with the wires couldn’t stop this Humvee‘s engine running smoothly.

However, the test drive wasn’t great, as poor steering and overheating caused problems.
“It’s smoky in here!” Westen remarked.
Despite that, he was optimistic about progress made so far and declared this was the ‘best modification’ he could have done to the Humvee.
But dyno testing showed it had only achieved 342HP, so more work was needed.
There was some difficulty in getting it to reach burnout, or keeping a vehicle still and spinning the wheels to generate smoke and heat.

There’s not much practical rationale behind trying to achieve this, it was just for show in the end.
